Eye strain is a serious issue for your eyes which is caused by a variety of factors. Fortunately, many of the factors that contribute to eye strain are under our control and can be managed.
Many of the issues that lead to eye strain are caused while sitting at our desks every day, or otherwise while living our lives.
Eye strain can be caused be excessive overhead light. If you have an over-head light near your desk, note this light should not be brighter than your computer screen.
Several other factors at a common work desk can also lead to eye strain. If your monitor is old with low resolution, sitting too close to your monitor, and if your mouse is too far away from you can all lead to your eyes suffering from eye fatigue or strain. Sitting in a bad chair where your back is not supported or sitting with bad posture can also contribute to people who get eye strain.
But if you wear an old prescription of eyeglasses or contacts you can cause eye strain.
In order to counter these issues try not to stare for too long at your computer screen. Remember to blink often and take breaks. An easy way to help combat eye strain is to remember the 20 by 4 rule — keep your eyes 20 inches from your screen and take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at something 20 feet away.
Eye strain can lead to headaches, dizziness, and even nausea if left unchecked. If you feel you are suffering from eye strain, try the above remedies or contact your family eye care provider.
