Red eyes

Do you struggle with red eyes? If you constantly have to deal with eye redness, there are several potential causes and remedies to reduce the likelihood.

Why Do Eyes Turn Red?

When our eyes turn red, it means the blood vessels on the surface of the eye became inflamed or dilated. This occurs for a multitude of reasons and the ways to fix them can vary as well.

The most common reason people get red eyes is allergies, which becomes worse if you scratch them. Eye redness from allergies will go away once the allergens are gone. However, to speed this process up, splash cold water on your eyes or use a cold compress.

Other Common Causes

Pink eye is another common reason eyes turn red. Pink eye can be a bacterial or viral infection and the redness can be reduced with a cold compress. If the infection does not go away in a few days, you may need to visit a doctor.

Too little sleep, a subconjunctival hemorrhage (from overexertion), and irritation from contact lenses can also lead to red eyes. Each of these issues can easily be remedied over time.
